VA payment dates for 2026, down to the day.
VA pays benefits monthly, in arrears, on the first business day of the following month. Weekends and federal holidays pull some payments earlier, which is why the date moves around. Here is the full schedule, plus a countdown to your next deposit.

How the dates are set, in plain English
VA pays benefits monthly, in arrears: the payment for a given month arrives on the first business day of the following month. When that first day lands on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment moves earlier, to the last business day before it.
Because January 1 is always a federal holiday, the December payment always arrives on the last business day of December. That is why your first payment of a new year, and the first payment at any new COLA rate, often shows up a day or two before New Year's.
Common questions
Deposits post overnight, so most banks show the money early in the morning of the payment date. Some banks that release deposits as soon as they receive them may show it a day early; that depends on your bank, not VA.
VA pays for a month on the first business day of the following month. When that day falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment moves earlier, to the last business day before it. That is why some months pay on the 30th or 31st.
Give it one full business day, check with your bank first, then verify your payment history and direct deposit details on VA.gov. If it is still missing, call the Veterans Help Line at 800-827-1000.
Rate changes explained before they hit your deposit
When the yearly COLA lands or a rule changes what you are owed, we send one clear email explaining what changed and what your new amount means.
Methodology and sources
Dates are computed from the statutory monthly-in-arrears payment rule and the official federal holiday calendar, then cross-checked against published schedules. VA does not publish a single official calendar page, which is exactly why we keep this one accurate. The schedule regenerates automatically each year.
