How long claims and appeals are taking right now
VA publishes its claims workload weekly and the Board of Veterans' Appeals posts wait times publicly. We compile the latest snapshot below.
As of 2026-09-26, VA reports 670,845 rating-bundle compensation and pension claims pending. 74,448 of those count as backlog (pending more than 125 days, VBA's definition). Figures come from the VBA Monday Morning Workload Report and update weekly.
VA's "pending" figure counts rating-bundle disability compensation and pension claims still in the pipeline. The "backlog" is the slice of those claims that have been waiting more than 125 days - VA's own threshold for an over-age claim. A claim being in the backlog does not mean anything is wrong with it; it simply means it has passed the 125-day mark. Most claims still move through review, exam, and rating in stages.
The Backlog Tracker graphs every weekly VA reading so you can see the direction, not just today's number.
These figures are national averages, not a forecast for your specific claim. Two veterans who file the same week can wait very different amounts of time depending on the conditions claimed, the evidence on file, and whether an exam is needed. The most reliable status for your claim is always in your own VA.gov account.
