How to read this

The backlog is not every pending claim - it is the slice that has waited more than 125 days, VA's own threshold for an over-age claim. A shrinking gold line means VA is working through older claims faster than new ones age in. A claim being in the backlog does not mean anything is wrong with it.

Where the numbers come from

Each point is the national "Compensation and Pension Rating Bundle" total from VA's Monday Morning Workload Report, retrieved automatically each week. No estimates, no modeling - VA's own published figures.

This source is not just our choice, it is VA's. When we filed a FOIA request for this same workload data (case 26-23668-F), VA's written determination pointed back to this exact public report as the authoritative home of the records. Read the letter (PDF) or see the request in the FOIA log.
