What does each VA rating qualify you for?

Your combined rating does more than set a monthly payment. It opens health care, family benefits, home loan, hiring, and education doors at different levels. Pick a rating to see what comes with it. These mirror the VA Benefit Eligibility Matrix, and some benefits carry their own income, dependency, or permanence requirements.

Hand it to a VA accredited representative or VSO at your appointment. Nothing is saved to a server.

30 to 40 percent

At 30 percent a major benefit begins: additional compensation for eligible dependents. Direct hire authority is added to federal hiring preference.

A note on TDIU and Permanent and Total

A veteran paid at the 100 percent rate through Individual Unemployability generally reaches the same benefits as a 100 percent schedular rating. When VA marks a rating Permanent and Total, it stops scheduling future examinations and opens DEA and CHAMPVA for the family. You can read your decision letter to confirm whether your rating is marked permanent.
