Toxic exposure and presumptives

Toxic exposure and presumptive conditions

When a condition is presumptive, VA presumes the connection to your service once you show qualifying service and a current diagnosis. That removes one of the hardest parts of a claim. These guides break down the major presumptive programs, from the PACT Act and Agent Orange to radiation, former prisoners of war, and tropical service.

A short walkthrough that maps your era and locations to the VA presumptive programs your service touches. Nothing saved, nothing shared.

The paper trail few veterans know about
POEMS, ILER, and VA's own exposure fact sheets

The military recorded what was in the air, water, and soil at many bases, and VA wrote internal fact sheets about several hazards in 2010. Those records can supply real exposure evidence, especially for conditions that are not presumptive.

Your base is not on a presumptive list?
Recognized but not presumptive exposures

Some sites, such as Fort McClellan, Naval Air Facility Atsugi, and the herbicide tests and storage locations outside Vietnam, had documented hazards but no blanket presumption. You can still claim them with the right evidence.

A presumptive listing means VA presumes service connection when qualifying service and a covered condition are both shown. It is not a guarantee of a grant, and claims still require a current diagnosis. Consider working with a VA accredited representative.
