Effective Date: June 9, 2026. Last Updated: June 16, 2026.
This Cookie Policy explains how Aurelis LLC, a California limited liability company, doing business as “The Veteran Benefit Desk” (“Aurelis LLC,” “The Veteran Benefit Desk,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the website. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What Is a Cookie
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website that allows the site to recognize your browser or device. Cookies may be set directly by us (“first-party cookies”) or by third parties (“third-party cookies”). Similar technologies include local storage, web beacons, and pixels. (GDPR Art. 4(1); ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC Art. 5(3)).
What We Actually Use
We keep our use of cookies deliberately minimal.
- Strictly necessary cookies. We use a small number of first-party cookies that are essential to operate the site securely, including maintaining session integrity, protecting against fraud and abuse, and supporting administrator and account-holder sign-in. These are required for services you request and are exempt from consent requirements where strictly necessary. (ePrivacy Directive Art. 5(3); GDPR Recital 47).
- Local storage for your saved calculations. Calculations you choose to save are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
We do not currently use analytics, personalization, advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising cookies, and we do not embed third-party advertising or retargeting trackers. If this changes, we will update this policy, and where consent is required we will obtain it through a clear consent mechanism before placing non-essential cookies. (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
Separately from cookies, we use limited first-party, cookieless measurement to understand aggregate site performance and to detect abuse: our own infrastructure counts visits using a daily-rotating pseudonym rather than a persistent identifier. This measurement sets no cookie, uses no third-party advertising pixels, builds no cross-site profile, and is never used to sell or share personal information for behavioral advertising.
How Long Cookies Last
Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Any persistent first-party cookies we use are retained only as long as necessary for their purpose and are kept proportionate to that purpose, consistent with the storage-limitation principle. (GDPR Art. 5(1)(e)).
Your Choices
- Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the site from working.
- Global Privacy Control. We honor GPC opt-out preference signals as described in our Privacy Policy. (Cal. Civ. Code section 1798.135(b)(1)).
- Do Not Sell or Share. Because we do not sell or share personal information, no additional opt-out is needed; if that ever changes we will provide a clear opt-out mechanism. (Cal. Civ. Code sections 1798.120, 1798.135).
Changes
We may revise this Cookie Policy as our practices or the law change. We will update the “Last Updated” date above and provide any notice required by law. (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code section 22575(b); GDPR Arts. 12 to 13).
