Eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and skin conditions.

Acne
Diagnostic code 7828

Acne is rated under 38 CFR 4.118 DC 7828 at 0 to 30 percent depending on whether it is superficial or deep, and whether it affects the face and neck or other body areas.

Alopecia Areata
Diagnostic code 7831

Alopecia areata is rated under diagnostic code 7831 at 0 or 10 percent based on the extent of hair loss.

Alopecia Totalis or Universalis
Diagnostic code 7831

Alopecia totalis or universalis (total loss of scalp or body hair) is rated under DC 7831 at a maximum of 10 percent.

Basal Cell Carcinoma
Diagnostic code 7818

Basal cell carcinoma is rated under diagnostic code 7818 (malignant skin neoplasms other than melanoma), which rates the residuals: disfigurement of the head, face, or neck, scars, or impairment of function. If treatment comparable to systemic therapy is required, such as systemic chemotherapy or surgery more extensive than wide local excision, the rating is 100 percent during treatment and for six months after, followed by a mandatory examination.

Benign Skin Growths and Neoplasms
Diagnostic code 7819

Benign skin neoplasms (cysts, lipomas requiring excision, benign tumors) are rated under diagnostic code 7819 as disfigurement of the head, face, or neck, as scars, or as dermatitis, depending on the residuals they and their removal leave.

Chloracne
Diagnostic code 7829

Chloracne is rated under diagnostic code 7829: 30 percent for deep acne affecting 40 percent or more of the face and neck, 10 percent for deep acne affecting less of the face and neck or other areas, and 0 percent for superficial acne. It is an Agent Orange presumptive, with a catch: it must have appeared to a compensable degree within one year of the last herbicide exposure.

Chronic Contact Dermatitis
Diagnostic code 7806

Chronic contact dermatitis is rated under diagnostic code 7806 by BSA affected and systemic treatment requirement.

Chronic Folliculitis
Diagnostic code 7806

Chronic folliculitis is rated by analogy to DC 7806 (dermatitis) at 0 to 60 percent based on body surface area involved and need for systemic antibiotics.

Chronic Fungal Skin Infection (Tinea)
Diagnostic code 7813

Chronic tinea (fungal skin infection) is rated under diagnostic code 7813 by analogy to dermatitis based on body surface area and treatment.

Chronic Urticaria
Diagnostic code 7825

Chronic urticaria is rated under diagnostic code 7825 at 10, 30, or 60 percent based on the level of treatment required for control: 10 percent for first line treatment with antihistamines, 30 percent for second line treatment, and 60 percent for chronic refractory urticaria that requires third line treatment because first and second line treatments were ineffective.

Discoid Lupus Erythematosus
Diagnostic code 7809

Discoid (cutaneous) lupus is rated under diagnostic code 7809 as disfigurement of the head, face, or neck (diagnostic code 7800) or as scars or dermatitis (7801 to 7806), whichever is the predominant disability. It is not combined with the systemic lupus rating under 6350.

Eczema / Dermatitis
Diagnostic code 7806

Eczema is rated under diagnostic code 7806 at 0, 10, 30, or 60 percent based on body coverage and the use of systemic therapy.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Diagnostic code 7806

Hidradenitis suppurativa is rated by analogy to dermatitis or eczema under diagnostic code 7806 at 0, 10, 30, or 60 percent based on body surface area affected and treatment requirements.

Hyperhidrosis
Diagnostic code 7832

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating that interferes with handling tools or work) is rated under 38 CFR 4.118 DC 7832. Maximum schedular rating is 30 percent when it is unable to be controlled by therapy.

Lichen Planus
Diagnostic code 7806

Lichen planus is rated by analogy to DC 7806 (dermatitis) at 0 to 60 percent based on the percent of body or exposed area involved and the duration of systemic therapy required.

Multiple Lipomas
Diagnostic code 7819

Multiple lipomas are rated under diagnostic code 7819 (benign skin neoplasms), which has no percentage table: VA rates them as disfigurement of the head, face, or neck, as scars, or on impairment of function. A painful lipoma or a painful excision scar rates 10 percent under the scar criteria; asymptomatic lipomas rate 0 percent, which still establishes service connection.

Neurofibromatosis Type 1
Diagnostic code 7819

Neurofibromatosis has no percentage table of its own. The skin tumors are rated under diagnostic code 7819 (benign skin neoplasms), which directs VA to rate as disfigurement of the head, face, or neck, as scars, or on impairment of function. The condition's other manifestations, such as nerve compression, hearing loss from acoustic neuromas, vision loss from optic gliomas, or seizures, are each rated separately under their own body system.

Pemphigus Vulgaris
Diagnostic code 7815

Pemphigus vulgaris is rated under diagnostic code 7815 (bullous disorders) using the General Rating Formula for the Skin, at 0 to 60 percent based on the body area affected and the systemic therapy required. Complications of mucosal involvement, such as ocular, oral, gastrointestinal, or respiratory disease, are rated separately under the affected body system.

Porphyria Cutanea Tarda (PCT)
Diagnostic code 7815

Porphyria cutanea tarda is rated under diagnostic code 7815 from 0 to 60 percent based on how much of the body is affected and how much systemic therapy is required. It is an Agent Orange presumptive with the same timing rule as chloracne: it must have appeared to a compensable degree within one year of the last herbicide exposure.

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (Razor Bumps)
Diagnostic code 7806

Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB, razor bumps) has no diagnostic code of its own. VA rates it by analogy under 38 CFR 4.118, usually with the General Rating Formula for the Skin (DC 7806) at 0, 10, 30, or 60 percent, or under DC 7800 if facial scarring or disfigurement is the main problem.

Psoriasis
Diagnostic code 7816

Psoriasis is rated under diagnostic code 7816 with the same general criteria as eczema, based on body coverage and systemic therapy.

Recurrent Cellulitis
Diagnostic code 7820

Recurrent cellulitis is rated by analogy under diagnostic code 7820 (infections of the skin) based on episode frequency and treatment requirements.

Rosacea
Diagnostic code 7806

Rosacea is rated by analogy under 38 CFR 4.118 DC 7806 (dermatitis) at 0 to 60 percent based on body surface area involved and systemic therapy required.

Seborrheic Dermatitis
Diagnostic code 7806

Seborrheic dermatitis is rated under 38 CFR 4.118 DC 7806 at 0 to 60 percent based on body area involved and systemic therapy required.

Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Residuals
Diagnostic code 7820

Acute shingles is rated by analogy to skin infection under 7820 during the active outbreak. Post-herpetic neuralgia is rated separately as a neurologic condition.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Skin
Diagnostic code 7818

Squamous cell carcinoma and other malignant skin neoplasms (except malignant melanoma) are rated under diagnostic code 7818 on the residuals: as disfigurement of the head, face, or neck, as scars, or as impairment of function. If treatment required systemic therapy, X-ray therapy more extensive than to the skin, or surgery more extensive than wide local excision, a 100 percent rating applies during treatment and for six months after.

Vitiligo
Diagnostic code 7823

Vitiligo is rated under diagnostic code 7823 at 0 or 10 percent based on the extent and visibility of depigmented patches.
