Alaska offers a $150,000 exemption from municipal property tax on the primary residence for disabled veterans rated 50 percent or higher, free hunting and fishing licenses for residents rated 50 percent or higher, and free or reduced fees at most state-run recreation facilities.

Up to $150,000 of the assessed value of the primary residence is exempt from municipal property tax. Municipalities may grant the exemption to non-residents stationed in Alaska. Transfers to the unremarried surviving spouse.

Alaska has no state personal income tax, so military retirement pay, VA disability compensation, and survivor benefits are not taxed at the state level. Alaska residents, veterans included, also receive the annual Permanent Fund Dividend.

Alaska issues Disabled Veteran and other distinctive military license plates. There is no general statewide veteran registration-fee exemption, but veterans with a service-connected disability qualify for a reduced fare (about 50 percent off) on the Alaska Marine Highway ferry.

Alaska adds a 5-point preference to a veteran's or eligible Guard member's score for open competitive state jobs, and 10 points for veterans with a service-connected disability or former prisoners of war.

In state tuition

Under 38 USC 3679(c) (the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act Section 702), every public college that accepts Post-9/11 GI Bill or Montgomery GI Bill students must charge in state tuition to veterans using their GI Bill, regardless of state residency, if the veteran enrolled within 3 years of separation. State specific extensions to this rule are noted below where applicable. Alaska also waives non-resident tuition for active duty military and their dependents stationed in the state.

The University of Alaska waives undergraduate tuition and fees for the spouses and dependent children of service members who died in the line of duty or are listed as POW/MIA. In-state tuition rates also extend to active-duty members and their families regardless of residency.

Alaska resident veterans with a service-connected disability can receive a free Alaska State Parks camping pass valid for two years at developed campgrounds. Resident veterans rated 50 percent or higher also qualify for free hunting and sport-fishing licenses.

State veterans cemetery

Eligible Alaska veterans can be interred at no cost for the plot at the Alaska Veterans Cemetery (Fort Richardson, near Anchorage) and other state veterans cemeteries; a fee may apply for a spouse or dependent.
